VATICAN FALLS is a fictional work based on factual accounts and events.

The play takes on the Catholic sex abuse scandal by chronicling the journey of one sex abuse survivor from chaos to clarity and back again. The play is a daring look at power, conscience and forgiveness.

The multi-genre, non-linear story centers on Riccardo, late 20s, an Italian-American singer/songwriter based in Rome, Italy. Riccardo is a member of SCAR (Survivors of Catholic Abuse Refuge), a group of victims turned revolutionaries, who initially band together to seek an apology from the Vatican but decide that retribution is the only way to counter the Church’s unrepentant complicity in the scandal.

Seemingly by chance, Riccardo meets the stunning Claudia, a Roman in her 30s. After an unconventional courtship, they fall in love. Alas, neither is who they appear to be. Claudia is a Vatican operative whose sacred mission is to spy on Riccardo.

Riccardo must ultimately confront his past and then decide how far he is willing to go to exact revenge on an impervious institution, realizing his choices could cost him the love of his life as well as his humanity.

VATICAN FALLS has been workshopped in NYC and Cincinnati and had a very successful staged reading in NYC in December of 2008.

The most recent reading was held at the Dramatists Guild in May, 2010. It was a fantastic evening!  The dynamite cast included: Joshua Dixon as Riccardo; Andrea Grano as Claudia; Liza Harris as Teresa/U.S. Government Representative; Matthew Crooks as Vi; Drew Bruck as Charlie/Gianluca; David Lavine as Matt/Monsignor; Stephen Chappell as Father David and Devon Talbott as Peter.

Based on factual material until it takes a fictional turn, VATICAN FALLS is set against the backdrop of the Catholic sex abuse scandal and follows the life of one survivor who struggles with understanding how those closest to him could damage him the deepest. The play dares to tell the truth about the scandal, following it as it first breaks in 2002, escalates to unconscionable proportions throughout the decade right up to the present...and beyond. This play was written for and is dedicated to Catholic sex abuse survivors. Proceeds will go directly to these brave people.

VATICAN FALLS was set to have its World Premiere in Rome, Italy last May - just a few kilometers from Vatican City - but was cancelled the night before opening amidst great controversy and claims of death threats. This will mark the NYC debut of the definite version of the play.

VATICAN FALLS features an amazing cast that includes: Rob Ventre, Carlotta Brentan, Joshua Dixon, Liza Harris, Drew Bruck, Devon Talbott, Matthew Crooks, Francesco Andolfi, Carlos Dengler, Kalen J. Hall and Lucia Grillo. Music Composed by: Claudio Procopio, Stage Directions: Cali Gilma, Musical Direction: Brad Gardner.
